Can Colon Hydrotherapy Benefit You?

Over the years, I have learned to embrace alternative medicine along with traditional methods. Long-held knowledge of natural remedies or ancient practices is too often ignored, so I do extensive research and if I find something interesting, I pursue it. I saw a story in the paper the other day about a new colon hydrotherapy clinic opening across town. I wondered what is colon hydrotherapy? I had never really heard of anything being done to your colon other than maybe an enema. Obviously, this was some lesser-known practice and therefore intrigued me greatly.

To put it bluntly, during colon hydrotherapy water is introduced to your colon through your anus by way of a tube and various types of pumps or induction machines. Sometimes over a dozen gallons of water are pumped into you before the therapist massages your intestinal area for a bit. Then the fluid and all of the resulting detritus are essentially sucked and drained out of your anus.

I know. It does not sound very pleasant, does it? But actually the whole process is comfortable and they conduct everything in a manner where there is no embarrassment and your privacy is fully guaranteed.

So, what is colon hydrotherapy used for?

Apparently, all of the processed foods we eat, the chemicals we are regularly exposed to, and the average person’s lack of exercise all contribute to the walls of our colon being laden with sticky, toxic gunk. Ideally, the colon itself detoxifies the contents and along with the liver process waste out of our bodies. However, we know that very few people are living and eating ideally. The sheer amount of preservatives and additives, pesticides and hormones we routinely ingest can overload some of our body systems, or cause bumps in the natural processes. So colon hydrotherapy is done as an aid to your body’s natural need to cleanse itself of toxins.

It turns out this process has been done in one form or another since the days of the Pharaohs in Egypt. I am still not sure why colon hydrotherapy is considered alternative medicine. After my treatment I had literally lost four pounds, and my whole body felt better – like there was some pressure off of me or that I had been rinsed out all over. I noticed over the next several days that my energy level was improved as well. I am also focusing on eating the proper foods, taking in lots of good fluids, and getting some regular exercise.
